A Serene Glass Specialty · Houston, TX
Fabric laminated glass — natural linen, metallic mesh, woven silk, and bronze thread sealed between ultra-clear glass lites. A dedicated Serene Glass specialty, with active inventory ready for commercial specification across Texas.
What It Is
Fabric laminated glass is produced by bonding a textile interlayer — natural, synthetic, or metallic — between two glass lites using a PVB or EVA laminating film, sealed under heat and pressure in an autoclave process. The result is glass that is simultaneously a structural assembly and a work of craft.
Unlike printed or etched glass, the texture is real — the actual weave of linen, the conductivity of metal wire, the luminosity of silk — permanently suspended in ultra-clear glass. No two production runs are identical. Every installation is original.
Meets ASTM C1172 — the interlayer holds glass in place if broken, preventing dangerous shards
PVB interlayer blocks 99% of UV radiation, protecting interior furnishings and occupants
STC 35–42 depending on glass thickness and fabric density — quieter spaces, by design
Fabricated to any dimension up to maximum fabrication size (120″ × 144″)
8 standard inlays in stock · Custom fabric submission accepted and evaluated
Decorative and functional — privacy, light diffusion, acoustic separation, and safety in one product

Common Questions
Fabric laminated glass is a specialty architectural glazing product in which a textile or woven mesh interlayer — such as natural linen, silk, metallic wire, or carbon fiber — is permanently encapsulated between two panes of glass using a PVB or EVA bonding interlayer under heat and pressure. The result is safety glass with a distinctive decorative appearance, combining structural performance with the aesthetic qualities of the chosen fabric.
Yes. The laminated assembly meets ASTM C1172 and qualifies as safety glazing per CPSC 16 CFR 1201 and ANSI Z97.1. The interlayer holds the glass together if broken, preventing dangerous shards — meeting the same safety standard as automotive windshields.
Fabric laminated glass is specified under CSI MasterFormat Section 08 80 00 (Glazing) or Section 08 40 00 (Entrances, Storefronts, and Curtain Walls) depending on the application. Serene Glass provides compliant product specifications, cut sheets, and CSI-formatted spec language for project documents. We engage directly with design teams during SD, DD, and CD phases.
The interlayer fabric must be dimensionally stable under the laminating heat and pressure cycle. Common options include natural and bleached linen, silk, jute, cotton muslin, woven stainless steel mesh, copper and bronze wire mesh, aluminum mesh, and high-performance synthetic textiles. Serene Glass evaluates custom fabric submissions from project designers.
Serene Glass LLC is a dedicated supplier and installer of fabric laminated glass in the Houston metro area, maintaining active stock of textile interlayer options with an established fabrication supply chain and certified installation crews for commercial projects across the greater Texas market.
Standard lead times range from 4 to 8 weeks for custom-fabricated panels, depending on fabric availability and panel size. Serene Glass maintains inventory of the most commonly specified fabrics to reduce lead times. Rush fabrication is available with a lead-time surcharge — contact us to discuss your project schedule.
In most standard configurations, fabric laminated glass is specified for interior partitions, doors, and decorative elements. Exterior use requires evaluation of interlayer UV and moisture resistance. For exterior applications, we specify ionoplast (SentryGlas®) or UV-rated PVB interlayers and recommend appropriate protective outer lites.
Privacy depends on fabric density. Open metallic meshes provide nearly full visibility in both directions. Dense natural textiles (linen, jute) provide partial obscuration — you see light and movement but not detail. Woven metallic fabrics at oblique angles can create dramatic effects when viewed from certain angles. Serene Glass provides physical sample panels for visual mock-up prior to fabrication.
